End of Morning Surprise

Okay, technically, I think it was just past morning.

I work from home a couple days a week, and I have my office phone forwarded to my cell phone. So a little while ago I got a call from a colleague and I was pacing on my porch (I tend to walk around while on the phone). We're talking about how to rework a budget when I reach one end of the porch and something below catches my eye. And I interrupt her to yell, "OH MY GOSH!!!" because I've just discovered a really large lizard in my yard.

Now, we had the occasional lizard growing up. Tiny little things, usually around a cistern (ehh, an old well). My cousins would catch them at our family reunion. No biggie. This guy, however, is a BIG, FAT BIGGIE. I didn't have a great way to show scale (as I'm still a little scared to go near it) so use my words to imagine - this guy's body is bigger than my hand.

Okay. Upon further inspection I realize, I'm pretty sure it's fake - a "little" statue or something. But I've lived here for 6 months, paced on that porch a lot, and never seen this thing. So I'm on the phone, trying to keep my cool, and not wanting to take my eyes off it - just in case. While sounding like an idiot.

Whew. I think I need an ice cream bar.
