Living the Public Life

This is what I want to tell you.
I really like my new job. I'm excited about what I'm doing, it's interesting, and it's meaningful.

This is what I don't want to tell you.
I struggle.

I suppose know we all do. We also hate to admit it. I mean, we have our moments where we are okay to say, "Yeah, I'm imperfect in this way." But only carefully. With people we trust, or want to trust.

There are countless struggles. Some are self-inflicted, some are chance, some are imposed. That's life. You take the good, you take the bad...
[I hope you find yourself humming that later today]

So, what do I do?

I get up in the morning. Usually early enough to take a brief walk with Deeojee. It helps us both start out well. Some days I ride my bike to work. Most days I spend a fair amount of time on the computer. I try to break that up with trips to the Elementary School to hang out in a garden at recess. Or by riding my bike down to the Community Garden and around on a Greenway. I go on hikes. For my job. Last Friday, I spent a couple of hours tromping around with my boss and a good country boy identifying trees.  Earlier in the week I met with a whole assortment of awesome coworkers and colleagues to plan a couple of sidewalks. On the one hand, it's a lot of bureaucracy. On the other hand, it's bureaucracy at its best. Good people. Good intentions. Getting things done.

I mean, how could you dislike this job?

Well, actually, I heard about some people tonight who aren't big fans. There are some peculiar folks out there. It's totally worth keeping your eyes open because life provides all kinds of reasons to smile.
